Instrumental Music
Students in Marching Band/Color Guard attend band camp starting at the beginning of August where they learn how to march and play, as well as the new competition show. Every year features a different show with different music, props, and themes. There are after school August - October and performances on selected Fridays and Saturdays in the fall.
Students in Jazz Band will perform Rock, Swing, Blues, Bebop, Funk, and Fusion styles of music. They will learn how to improvise solos, how to play in various jazz styles, and how they fit as an individual into the big band.
Prerequisites
Grade prerequisite: open to students in high school grades 9-12.
Class prerequisite: Marching Band members must take concert band at the high school. There is NO class requirement for Color Guard.
Participation Requirements
Students must be able to attend summer band camp in August, participate in after-school rehearsals August - October and perform at home football games and some Saturdays in the fall are required for competitions.
Students must participate in fundraising to help with the costs of participation via the concession stand.
Jazz band meets outside of the school day. Students perform at concerts, jazz band festivals, and at some boys and girls home basketball games.
